ACC GOING DOWN AGAIN
08 Oct 2012

NZTA will assist NZTR in a submission to the ACC, emphasizing that trainers are ensuring all current health and safety systems and practices are maintained. We also need to put efforts into improving on these to ensure our levy rates don’t increase too much in subsequent seasons. One of these could be as follows:

First-Aid training – The NZTA recommends trainers who employ a number of staff should also look at putting employees through a basic First Aid course.  Taking this kind of action will ensure there will be someone at hand with confidence and some knowledge if there is an accident. It is also a great indicator to the ACC that our industry is being responsible and taking positive steps in the health and safety in the workplace practices. The NZTA is in the process of trying to obtain a discounted rate for members with St John and will keep you updated with progress.

STAFF SHORTAGES
24 Sep 2012

STAFF AVAILABLE

It is very clear that there is a real demand for staff after the response from our last newsletter. So, the NZTA has taken action and advertised for trackwork riders on an international web-site and we now have a substantial pool of keen applicants. The NZTR and NZTA can assist with immigration requirements. Please note – you must be a member of the NZ Trainers’ Association to utilize this service.

Here is a list with a few details (in their own words) – please let me know if you wish me to forward you their details so you can make contact:

Wendy from England

I am an all round racing person and have worked in the industry for over 20 years. I have worked as a work rider, head lass, travelling head lass and have trained as well. I am hard working and fun loving. I have worked in the middle east and England and love to travel. I am travelling to Australia on the 12th October 2012 and would be willing to travel to New Zealand for a permanent position in a racing yard. I am a great asset to any racing team.

Lizz from England

In response to your advertisement, I am looking for employment as a trackwork rider, preferably near a city and/or a beach. My CV is attached, but since finishing University, I have spent the last three years working in racing, first for Lawney Hill in England, and for the past four months for Elie Lellouche in France. I am now trying to avoid a European winter and seek a new life down under. I am looking long term, although obviously this is dependant on how things work out. I am easy going and eager to learn, and I have references available. I can be available as soon as I have a visa sorted. I also have skype if that would help an interview process. Look forward to hearing from you, Lizz

Anita  and Adam from Australia

Hi. My partner and I could be interested in coming to New Zealand sometime after Christmas. My partner Adam is interested in becoming a jumps jockey and we would consider possibly re-locating to the North Island. Prefferably to a stable where he can learn to do some more schooling and gain the experience needed to ride over the jumps. We both ride in official trials and have our picnic jockeys licenses where we ride over the summer in Victoria. I am also very keen to start an apprenticeship so a stable that could provide accommodation and take both of us would be great. We both ride anwhere from 14-25 horses each per morning for various trainers and have plenty of experience riding young horses, jumpouts, timed galllops etc. We are both 27 years old, and Adam is 174cm tall and weighs approx 63 kg. We both have the same work history as we have been together just over 4 1/2 years and never spent a day apart. If this job caters for the both of us it would be ideal. If not, neighbouring or on course work placements would be suitable. Work experience includes: Gai Waterhouse-3 1/2 years Anzac Lodge-4 months (NZ pretraining/educating yard) Phillip J Hobbs-7 months (UK NH trainer) Nick Williams-(UK NH trainer) Jason Clifford-6 months trackwork (Tas) Charlie Goggin- 3 years until present trackwork (Tas) Amongst other trainers for freelance...
